Q+A
Why did
you decide to be a model?
Because I rock.
How did
you get started?
I had a friend of a friend, who is a photographer, take some pictures
and started going to open calls. Boss Models in NY was the second agency
I went to (I don't remember which one I went to first, but they recommended
Boss) and they took me on.
What agency
are you with now?
Dragon Talent - freak central.
How can
I become a model?
Go to an open call of any reputable, established agency (such as Ford,
Elite, Wilhemina, Next, etc.). Most likely they won't accept you because
you aren't established as a model and investing in you might be a risk.
But, as a courtesy, they will provide you with a list of other reputable
smaller agencies. They even might suggest which agencies would be most
suitable for you, taking into consideration your look. In the competitive
modeling industry, there is a strict height requirement. If you don't
meet the requirement, consider pursuing TV commercials (I do! I did five
commercials last year.). It pays a lot more. Modeling (unless you're a
celebrity spokes model) pays approximately 10% of what commercials pay.
And commercials don't have a height requirement. Whatever you do, DO NOT
give the agent or agency any money. Legitimate agencies don't ask for
any money up front - they make their money by sending you on jobs. The
agent may recommend some photographers to shoot your headshots/comp cards
but they should give you a choice and not force you to use "their" photographer.
Another alternative is doing extra work in movies, TV shows and commercials.
It is probably the easiest way to qualify for the union (SAG
- Screen Actors Guild). Being a SAG member is the only way to earn a lucrative
income working in front of the camera.
What
do you like the most about modeling?
The afterparties and the attention.
What's
the money like?
Unless you're Marcus Schenkenberg, it's not that great. You can definitely
expect to make a few hundred an hour, but editorials (i.e. magazine fashion
spreads) pay only $100-150 per day, even if they use it on the cover.
If you do land a job that pays hundreds an hour you usually end up working
a very short time (a few hours), unless you are shooting a catalog (long,
dull, days, but lots of money).
Then how
do you make a lot of money as a model?
Become a supermodel and have a rad booker so you can become a spokesperson
for a major company or go into TV commercials.
Where
do you live?
Venice Beach - freak central.
So, where
can one run into you?
Mainly, in my apartment, but also at Muscle Beach or Gold's Gym, at the
Rock Store on Mulholland, on the soccer field almost every Sunday afternoon,
and at Santa Monica College.
What are
you doing tonight?
Answering Q's.
Do you
have a girlfriend? boyfriend?
Sometimes.
Any pets?
See above answer.
How can
I get into your pants?
You can buy my pants on www.ebay.com
occasionally and do whatever you want in them.
What is
your real name?
Vladimir Tomljenovic.
Then why
do you go by Mick T.?
People kept mispronouncing my name.
What
is your favorite website?
I'm always looking for deals on recycler.com.
I religiously research mods and stats at AudiWorld.
I verify my friend's sanity on a daily basis at www.imnotinsane.com.
And I like checking out the beats at dublab.com.
Are you
a clotheshorse?
Mostly I am a clothes stallion, but right now I'm just a clothes pony.
Boxers
or briefs?
Usually I just go commando.
Mac or
PC?
Definitely Mac.
What do
you do for fun?
Myself, but when I'm not, I also like to ride my motorcycle, surf the
web, read magazines (German car mags and British motorcycle mags), play
chess, soccer, listen to drum&bass, and work out.
What celebrities
have you met?
Having lived in LA for the past ten years, it seems like I've met everyone
from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Ron Jeremy (or at least see them around).
Gold's Gym is where I usually get my daily dose of celebrity sightings.
What is
your favorite food?
Since I am vegetarian, I am a bit more selective. But I love sushi (without
the fish - don't ask), superspicy Indian food, superhot Thai food, Nuttella,
and Marmite.
What do
you think about cults?
They are an excellent source of tax-free income and free labor.
Are you
really in Mensa?
Well, that's what my membership card says, but it expires in September.
Do you
groom you eyebrows?
I mow them occasionally.
Are you
the bald guy on the You
Don't Know Jack game box?
Yes.
Who do
you think you are anyway?
Let me get back to you on that one...
